Thirroul JFC is delighted to welcome Thirroul Dental Care as a new sponsor of the club and supporter of our Thunderbirds womens teams.

Thirroul Dental Care has been servicing the local community since 2003 and those who have visited the principal dentist, Dr. Barry Joukhador, would be aware of his passion for sport.

Barry contacted Thirroul JFC wanting to support the club and we thank him and Thirroul Dental Care for their generous approach.

The Thirroul Dental Care name and logo appears on the shirts presented to players in our four Thunderbirds women’s teams for training and warm-up sessions before matches.

Thunderbirds support headspace Wollongong

Thirroul Thunderbirds are supporting headspace Wollongong in Sunday's FSC Women's Charity Round and the club is collecting donations on their behalf.

Representatives of headspace Wollongong will be at Gibson Park on Sunday for the Thunderbirds Division 1, 2 and 3 matches to raise awareness and funds for mental health services for 12-25 year olds.

Thirroul JFC will forward the total of donations made through the TJFC Shop or collected at the ground to headspace Wollongong.

More than 75 per cent of mental health issues develop before a person turns 25.

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds. headspace can help young people with mental health, physical health (including sexual health) alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support.

Over the years FSC has partnered with a number of organisations to raise awareness and funds to support the work of many great causes.

This year FSC, through the Women’s Competition, will support headspace as part of its Charity Round on Sunday 16 May.

Participating clubs will support headspace through their collections, events and raffles.  Representatives from headspace will also be in attendance at Thomas Gibson Park, Thirroul from midday to 2pm this Sunday.

headspace Wollongong participates in projects for young women in partnership with multiple organisations who work in the youth and health sector including Kiama Youth Services, Port Kembla Youth Project, Careways and MCCI. These programs for young women focus on wellbeing, self-care and healthy relationships and the Charity Round will assist these initiatives.

TJFC welcome Murphy's Coffee Co. as new sponsor

Thirroul JFC is pleased to welcome Murphy’s Coffee Co. as the sponsor of the TJFC Skills Development Program for junior players.

Murphy’s Coffee Co. proprietor Andrew Murphy has been a supporter of Thirroul JFC for a number of years and his mobile coffee van is regularly at Gibson Park on Saturday and Sunday mornings for junior matches.

Murphy’s Coffee Co. vans are available to bring the caffeine convenience to your events and private functions, as well as offering drive through services. A Murphy’s Coffee Co. van can be found most mornings at Latini’s Discount Tyres and Mechanical Repairs, opposite Bulli Public School.

TJFC U12s Cono Cup Gallery

Thirroul JFC’s U12As and U12Bs teams took part in the Cono Cup on Saturday, 27 March.

For many of the players it was their first time playing on a full size pitch.

The U12As qualified for the semi-finals, while the U12Bs were in a tough pool with South Coast United, Shellharbour and Balgownie, who won the tournament with a 4-1 defeat of Figtree in the final.

2021 Registration Open

Registration to play for Thirroul JFC in the 2021 season will be open from Friday, 8 January.

Thirroul JFC has maintained 2021 registration for all Junior players at the same $200 fee as last season.

A $40 Sibling Discount is available when registering three or more players from the same family. Parents must link their children when registering to receive the Sibling Discount.

For senior Thunder and Thunderbirds players, registration this year will be $250 and includes a new club polo shirt and training shirt.

TJFC Supports Club Thirroul amalgamation

Thirroul JFC endorses the proposed amalgamation of Club Thirroul with Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club and urges members of Club Thirroul to vote in favour of the proposal at a General Meeting of Club Thirroul on Sunday, 15 November at 10am.

As part of the amalgamation agreement with Club Thirroul, Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club has guaranteed to:

• provide annual funding for sponsorship of sport, including for rugby league and soccer, up to $50,000, for at least 4 years from the completion of the amalgamation;

• continue to support communities and organisations currently supported by Club Thirroul.

This would ensure the long-standing and important relationship between Club Thirroul and Thirroul JFC is maintained.

The amalgamation with Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club also guarantees the future of Club Thirroul for at least five years and provides an agreement to undertake renovations within the next 12 months, including the establishment of an alfresco food and beverage area.

The Thunder celebrated a fifth consecutive FSC District League second grade grand final win under the coaching of Kevin Lewis and their seventh title in 10 years with a hard fought 2-1 defeat of Oak Flats.

Match Report

Thirroul Thunder secured their fifth consecutive District League Second Grade title with an eventful 2-1 win over Oak Flats Falcons on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Ian McLennan Park.

It was a tale of two halves as all three goals came in the first period with Thirroul opening the scoring in the 24th minute through Jordan Cox before Oak Flats answered within minutes when Joshua Swinton scored one of the goals of the season to put his side level in the 27th minute.

Thirroul went ahead again in the 38th minute with a goal from eventual player of the match Lachlan Dunn which was enough for them to secure the grand-final victory.

The action began in a rapid pace with both sides looking to gain an early advantage, the Falcons were almost rewarded in the 12th minute when David Kotric found himself open from a corner but his header narrowly missed the back post.

Thirroul opened the scoring in the 24th minute when a deflected shot bounced straight to Cox in the box, he powered his shot into the roof of the net to give his side the lead.

Soon after the Thunder were agonisingly close to doubling their advantage when Dunn’s header from a corner beat the keeper but was just saved off the line by Luke Day at the back post.

Oak Flats desperately needed an answer to Thirroul’s constant pressing and found it through a world-class strike from Swinton. Adam Casey’s cross found Swinton at the end of the box, before he sliced the ball on the half volley and watched it sail into the back of the net to put his side level and gave himself, the club and the fans a grand-final goal they’ll never forget.

The Falcons could have been in the lead in the 31st minute when Alex Bausch made an incredible solo run from his own half and had a powerful shot from 25 metres out which forced Chris Wearing into an outstanding save.

The Thunder regained their lead in the 37th minute when a free-kick was awarded outside the box for a handball, the following cross found Dunn at the back post where he made no mistake slotting his header home to put his side up 2-1

Thunderbirds Indigenous Round, Sunday 4 Oct

Thirroul JFC will celebrate NAIDOC on Sunday, 4 October when our Thunderbirds Division 2 and 3 teams wear specially designed Indigenous shirts in their respective matches against Bulli and Oak Flats Wildcats at Gibson Park.

The celebrations will commence at 11.30am, with the games at 12pm and 2pm.

This is a player-driven initiative that Thirroul JFC hopes will be embraced by other teams within our club and the FSC women’s competition next season and in future years to promote inclusiveness and celebrate Indigenous culture, history and achievement.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. This year’s theme is: “Always Was, Always Will Be”.

The Thunderbirds have had a number of players represent Illawarra Bungarras at the National Indigenous Football Championships in recent seasons and last Sunday the Division 1 team took part in NAIDOC celebrations hosted by Albion Park at Terry Reserve.

The design for the shirts was created by Yuin woman, Rheanna Lotter, of Ngandabaa Aboriginal Art.

Thirroul JFC thanks Bando Contracting, a local business with connections to our club, for their sponsorship of the design cost.

Each Thunderbirds player has purchased her own shirt and the club hopes they will have further opportunities to play in them.

Due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, it has been difficult to organise Thirroul JFC’s inaugural Indigenous Round and the club views Sunday as a small start to what is hoped will become a bigger event in coming seasons.

Each year Thirroul JFC recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to the club through a series of awards.

Nominations for the 2020 awards close on Friday 9th October.

Coach of the Year

This award is to recognise significant contributions a coach has made towards the club.  Nominations should detail why the nominee deserves the award and how they have contributed, as a coach, to benefit the club.  You may nominate a coach for any reason that you see fit. This may include such things as developing players, being a good a coach, handling difficult situations, creating a good team environment etc. The nominations should detail the coach's history, performance and role in developing players and football at the club.

Community Award

Each year Thirroul Junior Football Club presents a Community Award to an individual or family who have shown dedication and great commitment to the club. Nominations should outline the positive contribution the nominee has made to Thirroul JFC during the previous 12 months or over a longer period, and the reason you believe they are worthy of the award.

Senior Club Person of the Year

A senior (over 18) member of the club, player, coach or official who has made an outstanding contribution to the operation of the club in the past year.

Junior Club Person of the Year
A junior (under 18) member of the club, in a playing, coaching or supporting role who has made an outstanding contribution to the operation of the club in the past year.

Life Membership

This award is in recognition of a club member who has performed  a continuous (at least five years) outstanding contribution to the operation of Thirroul JFC.

Thirroul JFC is supporting RUOK? Day 2020 to raise awareness for community well being and suicide prevention.

The club is promoting the message: "There's more to say after RUOK?".

Remembering Emma Joubert

Thirroul JFC, and especially the club’s ThirdsBirds team, would like to say Thank You, to the players, former players and supporters, including the Gibson Park Rangers and the University players, who helped remember and pay tribute to Emma Joubert.

At the end of the Division 3 game there was a presentation to the Joubert family of the shirt Emma had worn so proudly for so many years for Thirroul JFC and as a ThirdsBird. She will never be forgotten because she will always be in our hearts.

COVID-19 Update For Spectators, Players & Officials

NSW chief medical officer Dr Kerry Chant has asked all community sporting organisations to help decrease the number of people gathering at sporting events in response to rising case numbers in NSW and the ongoing risk of COVID-19 transmission in the community. 

Apart from the usual COVID-19 requirements for participants, officials and spectators to stay away from training sessions and games if they are unwell or experiencing flu-like symptoms, the NSW Ministry of Health has also requested the following to be excluded:

• Participants (including spectators and officials) if they have visited Victoria in the 14 days prior

• Participants (including spectators and officials) if they have attended any of the reported case locations on the dates and times listed on the NSW Health website.

It is important that the football family supports the NSW Government and the broader community, by continuing to promote the limiting of spectators, and encouraging participants to check if they have attended any of the affected venues. This is effective immediately and is vital for the successful continuation of our competitions throughout the state.

Community sporting organisations have also been reminded to:

• Take all reasonable steps to minimise the number of spectators attending games.

• Ensure the number of people in a facility does not exceed one person per 4 square metres of space (excluding staff) to a maximum of 500 people. This includes only essential parents and carers, particularly at junior games.

Acting NSW Sports Minister Geoff Lee said the government wanted to “minimise community sport spectators where practical”.

“We’d prefer no aunties and uncles, grandparents or siblings crowding the sidelines if they don’t need to be there,” he said.

To help ensure that football can continue to operate and the appropriate safeguards are in place to the reduce the risk of transmission, all players, parents, officials and spectators are required to comply with the following:

• Wash and/or sanitize hands before and after attending all training and games.

• Players arrive dressed and ready to train or play

• Limit the use of changerooms

• Players must comply with the 1.5m social distancing rule (except during games)

• Do not shake hands, high five or hug other players, officials, team officials or spectators

• Do not share drink bottles

• Limit the number of spectators that accompany you to training and games

• Avoid bringing anyone who is elderly or may be at high or increased risk of illness

• Do not attend if you have flu like symptoms or are feeling unwell

• Spectators must comply with the 1.5m social distancing rule at all times unless from the same household

• All participants and spectators must cover their coughs and sneezes

• Players and spectators must not socialize or assemble in groups before, during or after training or games

• Once training and games are finished depart the venue as soon as possible

• Get tested for COVID-19 if you develop flu like symptoms
