Thunder coaching staff and kick-around dates announced

Thirroul JFC is pleased to welcome Aaron Mott to the Thunder coaching staff as Youth Grade coach for the 2019 season.

Aaron, who had involvement with junior and senior teams at the club last season, will join an experienced coaching team headed by Thunder First Grade coach Garth Bowley.

The Thunder has qualified for the District League First Grade semi-finals in each of Garth’s four previous seasons in charge and this year the club had all three grades in the play-offs. Steve Dobbs will again assist Garth in 2019.

Reserve Grade will again be coached by Kevin Lewis, who has guided the team to three successive grand final wins and the League and Grand Champions double in 2018.

Rick Latini, Jo Belsito and Allen Bond will continue to provide great assistance to the Thunder coaches in their roles as team managers for the 2019 season.

All players interested in playing for the Thunder Youth Grade and open-aged teams next season are invited to a kick-around on Monday, November 19. Please meet at Gibson Park at 6pm.

Further pre-season kick-arounds will be held on November 26, December 3 and December 10.

Thirroul JFC would like to thank 2018 Youth Grade coach Aaron Kellaway for his efforts in ensuring a successful and rewarding season for the team, and wishes him well in his new role as Wollongong United First Grade assistant coach.

Thunder, Pruks win District League awards

Thunder Reserve Grade coach Kevin Lewis accepted the 2018 District League Champions trophy on behalf of the team at the Men’s Premiership Gala Awards held last Friday night at Villa D’Oro Function Centre.

Striker Oscar Pruks was also awarded the Golden Boot for his 26 goals, the most by any player in the District League Reserve Grade competition. As Oscar was unable to attend, the award was accepted by Kevin on his behalf.

Thirroul junior Nick Ryan took out Referee of the Year after this season becoming the youngest referee to take charge of a Premier League First Grade Grand Final.

Thunderbirds claim first Women's Grand Final win

The Thunderbirds WYL team created history when they became the club’s first senior women’s side to both win a Grand Final and achieve the League and Grand Championships double.

The Thunderbirds beat Warilla 1-0 in the Grand Final at Myimbarr Field to cap off a season in which the team finished top of the inaugural Women’s Youth League competition after losing just one match.

The team will now represent Football South Coast in the FNSW W21s Champion of Champions, with pool matches against St George on October 7 and Nepean on October 14.

Thirroul JFC had three other teams in Grand Finals at Myimbarr on the weekend of September 7-9.

The Thunderbirds W16.2 team lost 2-1 to Bulli and the W15s Thunderbirds went down 3-0 to Shellharbour, while the Thunder U16.2 side were beaten 2-1 by Kiama.

Three in a row for Thunder In Reserve Grade Grand Final

Thirroul faced off against Oak Flats in the WCG Cranes District League Reserve Grade grand final at Win Stadium. Thirroul looked to capture their fourth title in five years, which would also be their third grand final win in a row. For Oak Flats, they made the grand final from the 5th position, downing Coniston, Bellambi and Warilla on their way to the grand final. With both teams in stellar form, the game was shaping up to be a very tight contest.

The match began with both teams being nervous, coughing up possession without building up any pressure. Thirroul had an early penalty shout, but it was waved away confidently by the referee. Thirroul continued gaining momentum, Scott Woods had the first shot on target but couldn’t test Chris Jarman. It was Jordan Cox who almost put the Thunder ahead when he created space for himself with a fantastic touch and hit the ball sweetly but Jarman was up to the task, producing a wonderful save.

Cox once again had a golden chance, but this time he was denied by the woodwork after his header rocketed off the crossbar. Down the other end, Oak Flats failed to find the target, with Nathan Wilson smashing the ball well over the bar and letting Thirroul off the hook.

Thirroul finally broke the deadlock after Simon Ward was taken down inside the area in the 38th minute. With no arguments from the Oak Flats defence, Oscar Pruks stepped up to the spot. He buried the penalty with confidence and gave Thirroul a deserved lead.

GPR Super Hoops in Grand Final

Congratulation to the GPR Super Hoops who are in the Community League Masters Division 3 grand final on Saturday, September 15 at Macedonia Park.

The Super Hoops will be aiming to complete the League and Grand Champions double when they meet Ground Hogs at 2.15pm.

Previous clashes between the two teams during the regular season resulted in two 0-0 draws and a 3-0 win to Super Hoops.

Ground Hogs won the major semi-final two weeks ago after a penalty shoot-out when the scores were level at 1-1 at the end of extra time.

Super Hoops beat Shellharbour 4-1 last Saturday to qualify for the grand final.

Thirroul JFC wishes the GPR Super Hoops the best of luck in the grand final.

Thirroul Junior teams in grand final action this weekend

Congratulations to Thirroul Thunderbirds W15s and W16.2 teams and the Thunder U16.2 team for qualifying for their grand finals this weekend at Myimbarr Sports Fields, Shellharbour.

The Thunder U16s play Kiama at 8pm on Friday night, while the Thunderbirds teams both play on Sunday.

The W15s Thunderbirds take on Shellharbour at 11am, Sunday and their grand final will be followed by the W16.2 decider between Thirroul and Bulli at 1pm.

The matches are among 32 FSC Junior and Women's grand finals being played at Myimbarr over three days this weekend in a feast of football action.  

The first matches kick of on Friday evening, September 7, at 6pm and the grand final action culminates in the All Age Womens Division 1 decider at 3.30pm on Sunday September 9. 

The Thunderbirds Women's Youth League team will play their grand final against Warilla at 11am Sunday in a curtain-raiser to the AAW Division 1 fixture.

Thirroul JFC wishes all Thunder and Thunderbirds teams the best of luck in their grand finals this weekend. Please come and support our teams.

John Cropper to coach Thunderbirds in 2019

Thirroul JFC is pleased to announce the appointment of John Cropper as Thunderbirds Women’s Division 1 Coach for the 2019 season.

John has an extensive coaching background at all levels of the game, including stints in charge of Woonona and Wollongong Olympic First Grade Men’s teams.

He has also achieved success with Bulli Youth Grade, and most recently coached Thirroul Thunder Youth Grade team in 2016 and 2017.

John was also involved with the Thunderbirds Youth League team which made the final of the 2016 and 2017 FNSW W21s Champion of Champions tournaments.

He has coached players who have gone on to play for the Socceroos or at A-League level, as well as first grade for the Wolves and Stingrays.

With his background and experience, Thirroul JFC believes John is an ideal coach for the Thunderbirds Division 1 team next season.

John will continue in his role as Thirroul JFC Mentor: Coaching and Development.

Thirroul JFC wishes to thank Tina Siskoska for her efforts as coach of the Thunderbirds Division 1 team for the past two seasons.

The Thunderbirds had the youngest team in the 2018 FSC Women’s Division 1 competition and Tina oversaw the development of many players into the first grade squad, which will benefit the club next season and in the future. 

Tina advised Thirroul JFC at the end of the regular season that she would not be able to continue in the role next season and has endorsed the appointment of John as the new Thunderbirds Division 1 coach.

Thunderbirds Youth and GPR Super Hoops 2018 League Champions

Congratulations to Thirroul Thunderbirds Youth team and GPR Super Hoops for being crowned 2018 League Champions in their respective competitions.

The Thunderbirds won the inaugural FSC Women's Youth League competition and will play the major semi-final on Friday night at Gibson Park.

The Super Hoops are League Champions in the Community League Masters Division 3.

A number of other Thirroul teams have qualified for the finals in their competitions, including Thunder First Grade, Reserve Grade and Youth Grade teams in the District League, along with Thunder DC team in the Community League Division 1 Reserve Grade.

Thirroul JFC also has seven teams in the FSC Graded Junior semi-finals, commencing next weekend.

Congratulations to the U12G.1, U13G.1, U15W.1 Blue, U16W.2, U12.3, U15.2 and U16.2 teams for qualifying for the finals.

To all of the other teams and players whose season has been completed, thank you for being a part of our club this season. Thirroul JFC looks forward to seeing you at our upcoming 2018 Presentation Awards events.

Thirroul JFC 2018 Club Awards Nominations

Each year Thirroul JFC recognises those who have made an outstanding contribution to the club through a series of awards. Nominations for the 2018 awards close on Friday 7th September. 

The Awards will be announced at the Graded Junior Presentation on Sunday, 16th September and/or the Senior Presentation on Saturday, 13th October.

Coach of the Year

This award is to recognise significant contributions a coach has made towards the club.  Nominations should detail why the nominee deserves the award and how they have contributed, as a coach, to benefit the club.  You may nominate a coach for any reason that you see fit. This may include such things as developing players, being a good a coach, handling difficult situations, creating a good team environment etc. The nominations should detail the coach's history, performance and role in developing players and football at the club.

Community Award

Each year Thirroul Junior Football Club presents a Community Award to an individual or family who have shown dedication and great commitment to the club. Nominations should outline the positive contribution the nominee has made to Thirroul JFC during the previous 12 months or over a longer period, and the reason you believe they are worthy of the award.

Senior Club Person of the Year

A senior (over 18) member of the club, player, coach or official who has made an outstanding contribution to the operation of the club in the past year.

Junior Club Person of the Year
A junior (under 18) member of the club, in a playing, coaching or supporting role who has made an outstanding contribution to the operation of the club in the past year.

Life Membership

This award is in recognition of a club member who has performed  a continuous (at least five years) outstanding contribution to the operation of Thirroul JFC.

FSC Homeless Hub Charity Round 15-17 June

The Football South Coast Homeless Hub Charity Round will be held from Friday, June 15 to Sunday, June 17 at all grounds, including Gibson Park.

There are more than 1500 members of our community who are homeless. Many of these people
sleep in cars, on trains, beaches and the streets.

The Homeless Hub provides accommodation, outreach services, assistance to gain employment, food and services to these members of our community.

Collection buckets will be available over the weekend at FSC grounds for donations. Please dig deep to help someone in need.

FSC will be also accepting donations of blankets, bedding, non perishable items, toiletries and anything that can assist with day to day living. Donations can be dropped off to the FSC office at the Fraternity Club next Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm.

Alternatively, make a direct deposit to the Homeless Hub to assist with the purchase of a much needed Swag. Any amount is welcome, it all adds up. Homeless Hub account details can be requested from the FSC Office via email admin@footballsouthcoast.com.

COACHING COURSES

Football South Coast is conducting a FREE Grassroots Coaching course this Saturday, 17 March (9am to 11.30am) at Gibson Park.

There will also be a Game Training coaching course at Ocean Park, Woonona on 24 and 25 March.

GRASSROOTS COACHING COURSE: Gibson Park, 17th March 2018

This free course is fully practical and encourages the coach to develop practices that are based on FUN.

The emphasis is on natural development i.e. learning by PLAYING football. 

No coaching but organising FUN football exercises is the key to helping players build a love for the game.

Another highlight of the course is that the coaches are exposed to basic rules of the game as well as tips and hints on building a football culture in a completely practical setting.

GAME TRAINING LICENCE: Ocean Park, 24th & 25th March 2018

This is a particularly good course for anyone coaching Graded Junior teams, Under 12s to Under 18s.

In the Game Training Phase the coach’s aim will be the development of tactical awareness, perception and decision making through a game related approach to training.

The course is conducted over 14 hours, is fully practical and provides the coach with training sessions designed to help the players apply the Functional Game Skills in a team setting using the FFA endorsed ‘4-3-3’ formation.

Thunder 2018 season draw released

Thirroul Thunder will start the 2018 season with back-to-back matches against Helensburgh Thistle at Gibson Park.

The Thunder take on Helensburgh at home in the opening round of the Bert Bampton and Youth Cups on Saturday, 17 March and then meet the Thistle again a week later, also at Gibson Park, in the first round of the FSC District League competition.

Kick off times for the Youth Cup fixture is 12.15pm and will be followed by the Bert Bampton Cup clash for First Grade at 2.30pm.

The full season draw for the District League competition is as follows, with all games played on Saturday at 11am (Youth Grade), 1pm (Reserve Grade) and 3pm (First Grade), unless otherwise stated.
